Cable arch bridge is a new type structure emergent in recent years, it is also combination system of cable and arch bridge, and few research have done on it now. This article mainly analyses the mechanical characteristics of cable arch bridge.This finite element combined with Matlab calculation method is applicated to analysis the cable tensions under the dead loads, according to the characteristics of the cable arch bridge, four methods including minimum the total energy of arch, minimum the bending strain energy of arch, minimum the pressure line from the arch are chosen to analysis it. After comparing the result of cable tensions and finished dead state of cable arch bridge, the characteristic of cable arch bridge's Optimization was noted as well as suggestions on Optimization was given.This article theoretically discusses the stability of cable arch structure, and comparatively analyses the stability safety factor and the instability mode of cable arch structure and arch structure, and summarizes the influence of stay cable on the stability.When several major design paraments that the stiffness of arch, the anchored height of stay cable, the spacing of cable anchored in the arch were changed, the station of arch were researched by finite beam element method.
