Traffic flow prediction is a founded problem in the research of urban traffic management. With GPS/GIS's widening use, floating car technology is coming to be a new hot point in the research of urban traffic study. Volume is a main parameter of traffic flow which reflected traffic load situation in a little time and an important data basis to traffic induction. Based on GPS data of Hang Zhou City taxis, the paper researched on traffic volume of urban road.The paper summered study status of floating car and acquisition technology of traffic flow data. Using information of position and speed supplied by floating car, the paper did the Fitting the data and get Interval speed of single vehicle and Speed Features of traffic flow. According to flow characteristics of section with signal impact, raised assumption that the traffic flow is a continuous flow without other interference. The paper described the cycle Process of volume of urban traffic flow. Traffic flow was divided into two parts include dilution stage and no interference stage to calculate. Based on volume equation and floating car data, a model of volume reckoning was built and parameter decision way was given. In the paper, using GPS data of floating car of Hang Zhou city, example analysis on the model was made, so the model's effectiveness was proved.
