Research On Requirement And Design Of Dwellings With Medium And Small-sized Unit Type

Along with the urbanization of China, new changes and demands appear in the design of urban housing because of the scarcity of the land resources. Therefore a type of dwelling units which fit the current situation and the trend of urban residential development should be popularized. After analysis, medium and small-size dwelling units are proposed as a proper solution to meet the demand of low income residents, narrowing the gap between the rich and poor and build a harmonious society. Such a research is also valuable to improve the living conditions of the people, promote the research of urban housing and the development of the whole society.This paper takes the medium and small-size dwelling unit as the object of study. By pointing out the demand for medium and small dwelling units, summarizing previous research results, learning from domestic and foreign successful experiences and combining with the practice of current projects in Tianjin, we fully analyze and summarize the current situation for the design of medium and small-size units and bring up some suggestions for further improvement.This article first describes the demand for the medium and small dwelling units and the development of the design for the urban housing, followed by an elaboration of the goal and significance of the study and the methods applied. The necessity of developing such dwelling units is therefore indicated. The definition, the principle and methods involved in the design, the types and the characteristics of the medium and small units are also discussed. Some considerations and suggestions are brought forth at the end with the analysis of the example in Tianjin.
