Once introduced into the urban space, the urban rail transit will change human activities through its influence on the accessibility of the urban space, which is perceived as the blend of urban rail transit into the existing urban space. However, the influence of the urban rail transit bears great differences in Shanghai and Berlin, which is reflected by the different distribution pattern of human activities in the station core of each city, and such phenomenon indicates the existing urban space in Shanghai and Berlin has involved the same urban elements, namely the urban rail transit, in different degree.Based on the investigation on the Pearl Line in Shanghai and Stadtbahn in Berlin, this thesis focuses on the outdoor space in the selected station core and studies the activities within. By analyzing the relationship between activities and space quality, activities and accessibility, activities and territorial quality, the particularity of this special urban space is translated and summarized as 'Event' and 'Resistance', which explained the essential bonds between urban rail transit and urban space. To reveal the relation between urban rail transit and urban space is not the mere purpose, to discuss and uncover the nature of the urban space in Shanghai and Berlin is the final target. At last, this thesis tries to conclude such essential character of the urban space in two different cities as 'Path' and 'Region' accordingly. And take urban culture, economical system and development phase to compare the evolution of 'Path' and 'Region'.
