Tunnel Boring Machine is an enormous engineering equipment designed for constructing underground project, related with multi-technology including mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, exploration and control. Lack of resource and destruction of environment caused by the development of industry and rapid increase of population make the earth hard to support mankind's living. Many countries have taken measure to cope with that, otherwise, exploiture of the underground place has been much more importantly considered. Promoted by the development of economy, the urbanization of China is accelerating, construction of civicism project, subway and water conservancy etc. is its main works, it's necessary to adopt TBM in its underground project.This paper studied the working principle of the main drive system of TB880E full face rock tunnel boring machine produced by WIRTH, German, which is excavating the Middle-Tianshan Tunnel. By assembling and testing the TBM hydraulic system and observing its working condition, and do test and analyze work on its working parameter, get further understanding of its working performance. This study will provide reference for TBM design and manufacture in related institution, and also for TBM application in underground project.The main work is as follows:Chapter 1, introduced the general situation of tunnel construct method and machine, and TBM technology applied in the worldwide. Described the research background and put forward its study meaning and main work.Chapter 2, analyzed the power requirement of the main drive system of TBM with consideration of the tunnel project condition. Present the general information of the hydraulic power unit.Chapter 3, analyzed constitution of TBM structure and its rock breaking mechanism, and studied the work principle and characteristic of TBM cutter head electrical main drive system and hydraulic auxiliary drive system. Adoption of multi-drive system adapt to the complicated geological condition. Chapter 4, elaborated the characteristics of electro-hydraulic proportional technology and its application in TBM. Studied the working principle and performance of thrust system and gripping system, and analyzed how its working parameter affecting the excavate efficiency and machine position.Chapter 5, with studying the hydraulic system schematic diagram, found out the reason of abnormal phenomenon appeared in the process of hydraulic system assembling and testing. Do test and analyze work on TBM working parameter.Chapter 6, the conclusion is given and an expectation on the future work about this study subject is put forward.
