Nowadays, low electrical load ratio, wide gap between peak and valley power, and shortage of peak electricity are widely seen in China's power system, which demands great amount of peak-load regulation capacity. On the other hand, hydroelectric power plants of excellent technical and economical qualities are suitable to respond to the electrical peak demand. However, the lack of peak power supply and the abundance of water make hydropower plants spill large quantity of water to provide peak electricity. In order to ease the peak load tension, it is urgent to enhance the regulatory capacity of hydropower on the side of power supply.Firstly, theories about long-term hydropower scheduling, the operation and problems of hydropower plants filling the role of peak-load regulation are briefly introduced, and then the principles and schemes of the following study is brought forward.Conventionally, the operation of hydropower plants is arranged by the system operator. The optimization models can take account of peak load regulation to manage the electrical generation of hydropower plants. Thus, a fake benefit expectation model of the peak load regulating hydroelectric plants is given through analyzing the benefit expectation model. And on the basis of the detailed calculation method of peak electricity, the maximization model of peak electricity is established. Both are applied to the case of Danjiangkou power plant. Furthermore, with the advancement of market reform in power industry, power plants pursue the commercial income as independent market participants and should consider pricing. This paper analyses and compares long-term models of benefit maximization under seasonal flood-dry pricing and daily peak-valley pricing, which concludes that the latter is more reliable to encourage the hydropower plants to increase peak electrical generation.Finally, the dissertation makes a summarization and puts forward the future work of long-term hydropower peak-load regulation.
