3D modeling is superior to 2D drawing in visible designing, assemble designing, analysis designing and machining simulating, and is an important way to improve designing and product quality. But most 3D modeling software is a general designing software, lacking the special designing solution for the enterprise. Then it can not improve the efficiency of the enterprise. In this situation, to make overseas software be fit to our mechanical production, secondary development on the commercial CAD/CAM software is an important task which we must face to in generalizing and using CAD in domestic.Inventor is an excellent software integrated machinery CAD/CAE/CAM, copyright reserved by Autodesk Corporation. It is based on composite modeling, feature modeling and assemble modeling technology and can be used for designing complicated product. Furthermore, UG, an open software, can be used to develop a variety of application programs.Designing of special belt conveyor for electric power plant is characterized by complicated structure, high quality requirement, much workload and serial designing. In this paper, author develops the special belt conveyor 3D parameter modeling system. The main research of this paper include:First of all, having introduced the basic theory of Inventor: solid modeling theory,feature technology,parameterization.In the next place, studying the design process of belt conveyor and parts designing related content. Based on these, with software engineering method, the author gives the framework of belt conveyor 3D parameter modeling system.Thirdly, based on Inventor API and HELP documents, the author studies the way of the secondary development of Inventor. Compared with VBA,Add-In,EXE,Apprentice Server, giving the advantage and disadvantage, the author makes the system in Add-in way. Then introducing the secondary development way of Inventor in Visual C++,for example, linking to the program and Inventor,the technique of dimension driven,database designing and programming,the designing of system entrance.Finally, applies above theories, the paper has developed a belt conveyor 3D parameter modeling system on the Inventor platform. The system has a friendly user contact interface, operates easily, is practical. The practice proved that the system can enhance productivity greatly, lighten designer's burden, have high practical value.
