Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) has a simple and firm structure, it is reliable, and it has a strong ability in fault tolerance and performance of its speed variation is perfect as well. As rotating speed increasing, rotor dynamics becomes more and more important in design of high speed SRM. SRM has a double salient construction and its working principle is different from traditional AC electrical machines. As a result, the rotor system of SRM is a typical nonlinear system which refers to strong coupling with electromagnetism and mechanism.Firstly, the finite element analysis has been carried out to the 6/2 and 6/4 motors. On the base of the magnetic field analysis by JMAG software, the unbalance electromagnetic forces of SRM with eccentric rotor under different currents and eccentricity were calculated. The impulse property of the unbalance electromagnetic force is proposed. For further quantitative Analysis, the linear magnetic path model is established under little eccentricity. Then the character of unbalance electromagnetic forces is analyzed, and the numerical value model is obtained. Comparing with the result of FEM analysis, the correctness of linear magnetic path model is validated. The rotor dynamics model of SRM is established and simulated under operation of both unbalance electromagnetic force and eccentric force by FEM. Then the influences of rotor speed, supporting structure and shaft shape to the critical speeds were evaluated, and the rotor orbital analysis is carried out which will be referenced by high speed SRM design. The simulation results are validated by rotor vibration experiment. In addition, the high speed SRM design of multiplex parameter is proposed. The subjects of rotor stress, iron losses, stator vibration are analyzed by numerical simulation. Mode tests are made to validate the result of simulation.
