In the light of the above research status. The thesis mainly analyses calculating method on the behavior of cold-formed steel shear walls with openings in residential structures based on consulting a lot of documents. and the corresponding proposed design method is proposed.Firstly, Three different wall configurations containing various openings and one control wall with no opening were tested to examine ultimate load capacity in this thesis. The trial devices, test method and full test course as well as the analysis of test data are introduced in detail in this thesis. The shear behavior of self-drilling screws connection is also tested in this thesis. Discussing the effect of some factors to the mechanical performance of self-drilling screws connection. Such as the speed of load, the thickness of plate, the orientation of board and the distance from self-drilling screws to the edge of plate.Secondly, Nonlinear finite element analysis involving geometric large deformation and materials nonlinear is used to simulate test walls with openings under monotonic load in this thesis. Members are modeled as shell elements. The steel members are simply connected. The screws connecting of the sheathings to the frame are modeled through beam elements. The equation resolution method is selected by ANSYS program automatically. The finite element analysis results are close to that of tests, So the finite element analysis method is correct. There are followed by a detailed parametric study using nonlinear finite element analyse. Analysing the effect of the opening dimension to the behavior of cold-formed steel shear walls.Finally, Based on the tests and the finite element nonlinear analysis. According to the design rules in the foreign specification about corresponding calculating method for the behavior of cold-formed steel shear walls with openings in residential structures. A calculating method for the behavior of cold-formed steel shear walls with openings in residential structures is proposed in this thesis. The proposed calculating method agrees well with the ANSYS results.
