With the development of science and technology, modern pneumatic technology is developing rapidly owing to its advantages of low-cost, non-pollution, fireproof, explosion proof, high reliability and long service life. Possessing some advantages over other transmission techniques, pneumatic transmission is expending its industrial application field everyday.The pneumatic cylinder is widely utilized in many automation fields, depending on its advantages of quick speed, simple structure and low cost. Presently, it is utilized in mechanical manufacture, metallurgy, petrochemical engineering, textile industry, electronics industry, instrument, home appliances, food industry, health and medicine engineering and etc. It performs the predictive operation with compressed air. As the cylinder is widely utilized, its reliability index is very important. The research subject is to design a reliability test and to test reliability index of cylinder.Firstly, this dissertation briefly introduced the characteristics and application of pneumatic technology, present research situation of reliability technology at home and abroad, and its development tendency, the purpose and classification of reliability test, the purpose and content of the dissertation. Then it illustrated the structure and characteristics of the test cylinder, failure theories and failure analysis. Based on fault tree analysis, failure mechanism and failure mode of cylinder are analyzed, fault tree of test cylinder is set up, and three failure modes of test cylinder are obtained. Based on the requirement of pneumatic component reliability testing, constant stress strengthening life test of air cylinder is designed. Moreover reliability test bench is built up, for which measurement and control system is developed based on LabVIEW.In addition, through this cylinder reliability test, this dissertation also introduces the distribution pattern and analysis method of reliability test data. Analysis focuses on the Weibull distribution, the point estimation and interval estimation. It also analyzed the test data through Weibull distribution with cylinder reliability indice obtained. Finally, it tested the fitting goodness of the test cylinder life distribution by two ways—Kolmogorov-Smirnove test and Weibull distribution test. It verified the consistency of the empirical and theoretical distributions.
