There are many utility ducts and pipes in high-rise buildings, the use of RC beams with web openings can provide space to accommodate ducts and pipes without increasing the story height. Such an arrangement can reduce the height of building and overall the cost. Compared with the present common structural style, beams with openings have many important advantages, such as less building material and construction cost, etc. So there is cheerful prospect for the application of beams with openings. However, the introduction of web openings leads to reduction of strength of the beam and excessive deflection and more cracks, which significantly affect the serviceability of the building. As a part of the research series on RC beams with web openings, this paper mainly discusses the character of behavior of RC beams with web openings which reinforcing steel bar is not set around .This paper mainly deals with two works. The first work is to make up six models of non-linear finite element analyses. Then compare theoretical results and experimental findings, to find out the effect of the diameter, number and position of holes. The second work is to discuss the design procedures, on the basis of finite element analyses and experiments data, considering security and practice, which can be adopted by practical engineering application. |
