In the "Digital Earth" environment, service-oriented geospatial information sharing has become the development trends of digital construction in China. In this paper, the concept of digital botanical garden platform construction was proposed after an analysis on current development and situation of digital botanical garden construction at home and abroad. The digital botanical garden platform is actually a service-oriented platform for geospatial information sharing. When the day-to-day management work has been informationized, plant resources throughout the country can be shared and the platform can serve the whole country. The paper, with the composition, services, key technologies and framework of the platform as its focus, aims at exploring the feasibility of digital botanical garden platform construction. Based on an analysis on key technologies such as Web Service, GIS technology, spatial database technology, and Massive data management technology, the overall framework of the platform was put forward and the design of the framework reflected "user - process - application service" concept. The overall design of the platform focused on database and platform services, which includes Plant science research, germplasm resources information management, plant introduction and domestication decision-making, as well as virtual botanical garden. The feasibility of construction the platform was further demonstrated according to database implementation, service analysis and introduction, functions and promotion model reasearch. Experiments show that the construction of digital botanical garden is feasible. Finally summrised this paper, raised the problems faced by current research and expected the practice of digital botanical garden in the future.
