The existing research achievements have exposed that the plane irregularity has an important effect on structural seismic performance. To enhance the torsion resistance ability of a structure and then to reduce the disaster under earthquake is a significant concept in structure design. Under such background, the torsion effects of seismic response are taken as the main object in this paper. The main contents are as follows:In the first chapter, there is a brief introduction of the existing studies on irregular structures. And then the definition of asymmetric building structures and the existing torsion-resistant design methods are summarized in the second chapter. In the next chapter, the influence for stiffness distribution and strength distribution on the inelastic torsional response of asymmetric building structure is studied by using a single-store model. In the fourth chapter, based on the nonlinear time-history analysis, the influence of reinforcement ratio in columns of the flexible edge on the asymmetric frame structure is discussed by using an example. It is found that inelastic torsional response may be controlled through adjusting the reinforcement ratio in columns of the flexible edge. Meanwhile, this example is used to compare the difference between the torsion effect under bi-directional earthquake ground motion and that under one-directional earthquake ground motion. In the fifth chapter, the basic principle and implementation of the pushover analysis method are introduced. The pushover analysis of one asymmetric frame-wall system is carried out. The result shows that the lateral load pattern can lead to obvious difference of pushover analysis results.Along with the development of performance-based Earthquake Engineering design, studies on the yield mechanism and the seismic performance evaluation on asymmetric building structures become much more important. Therefore, in the sixth chapter, we choose an asymmetric frame-shear wall system and an asymmetric frame system. And based on the pushover analysis, the yield mechanism and the seismic performance of the two models are obtained.
