The Research On Function Design And Its Scalability Of The Apartment For The Aged

Since the 90's of 20th century,China has been entering an elder society. It that the rapid growth of the elderly population and the deeper aging degree will be an important change of China's population in the first half of this century.Facing with the challenges of aging,Old-age issue which related to social stability and sustainable development has become an important social problem.The housing problem of the elderly is the primary problem of it.One important problem that placed in the planners and architects to be considered is how to adapt and satisfy the elder people's needs of housing.As an important component of the old-age facilities,apartment for the aged is in their good graces,because in which they can independently enjoy the habitable space,more good service,more good care and the family atmosphere.Recently years, there are more and more apartments for the aged,but the architectural function and the planning design for them are still in the initial period,lack the consideration on the aged people's housing demand and deep research on the aged people's living conditions,which caused a lot of inconvenience both for older people's communication and living.This paper starts from the social investigation,applies the basic principles and the correlation theories of architecture and the old age study,analyses the development of elderly apartments abroad,summarizes the prominent features and the experience that can be referenced of them,also,researches the problems of Chinese elderly apartments.Then,the paper covers the physical and psychological characteristics of the old people,their requirements of housing and living model as well,elaborates and analyses the design of functional elements,unit,architectural combination,planning and other aspects of the elderly apartments.Finally,the author investigates the intelligent design of elderly apartments and researches the exchange of them.We should consistently carry out the ideological that with the aged people as the centre,to reflect the concern for them.Through the research on function design and its scalability of the apartment for the aged,this paper intends to provide some enlightenment for the construction of the elderly apartments in future.
