With the development of the society and progress of the science and technology, the new building materials and constructional types have set off an upsurge. China is the main source of bamboo. The using of the growth fast and good performance materials as construction materials is a promising option. But the study of the indoor air quality and fireproofing performance of the constructional type still need be perfected currently.The studied bamboo house of this paper is located in Civil Engineering College, Hunan University, designed and constructed by a team led by Prof. Xiao of the Institute of Modern Bamboo, Timber and Composite Structures (IBTCS), and Key Laboratory of Building Safety and Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Education. This paper focuses on the measuring of the indoor air quality (IAQ) and the fireproofing performance.In order to measuring the indoor air quality, the on-site measuring and laboratory analysis are used. The temperature and humidity detector, anemometer, barometer and other equipments are used to test the indoor and outdoor air parameters. Sampling instrument is used to sampling air and the air collected by Tenax tubes, analyzed with gas chromatograph, coupled with adsorption/thermal adsorption and flame ionization detection (FID), the concentrations of the total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and the selected volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can be analyzed which are contained in the sampling tubes. These are representative of the major chemical classes of compounds that occur in indoor air, which are benzene, toluene, butyl acetate, ethylbenzene, m/p-xylene, cinnamene, o-xylene, undecane. And the fireproofing performance of the bamboo house using the bamboo plywood as the main construction material is generally more concerned. But the real fire experiment is very difficult, the paper use the fire dynamical simulation software (FDS) to carry out the simulation which is currently popular at home and abroad.After the four-month-measurement, we can find the concentration of all detected pollutants are very low, and meet the relevant national air quality standards. Using the FDS to simulate the concrete wall and two style bamboo walls, the results show the bamboo wall with plasterboard and glass wool possesses the better heat preservation and fireproofing. And using the FDS soft to simulate the bamboo house, temperature and concentration field distribution can be seen clearly. The available safe evacuation time can be simulated and the required safe evacuation time can be calculated when the fire broke out in the bamboo house. By comparison, we can know the building completely meet the safe evacuation basic criteria to the indoor personnel.
