In this thesis, the system partitioning strategy for power system black-start restoration is investigated by considering the optimal start-up sequence of the units in each subsystem. Meanwhile, the time and capability constraints during unit restarting are also considered. Considering the different requirements of the different unit types in the different stages of the restoration, a three-stage partitioning algorithm is proposed by using genetic algorithms in this thesis. By the proposed method, a feasible scheme of system partitioning can be found with more units to be restarted-up within the time requirements and the time consumption for the whole system restoration can be reduced to a minimum value. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by the numerical results on the IEEE 118-bus power system.
