Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is located in the Gobi desert where is a extremely arid zone, the climatic characteristics is dry air, scarce rainfall, strong evaporation. It is more favorable to preserve the grottoes heritage in such climatic conditions. But at the same time, The extreme scarcity of water resources in the negative impact is significant: It not only lead to vegetation degradation and ecological imbalance, but also impact of heritage conservation in Mogao Grottoes. so, it is very important to solve the water shortage for the coordinated development of heritage conservation and tourism.Based on the full study of the relevant data of the Mogao Grottoes, this paper deeply studies the characteristics of water environment, supply and demand relation of the water resources. The results show that the groundwater level is dropping in, Based on the synthetic hydrological analysis, the runoff of Daquan River flows into Mogao Grottoes is 135.2×10~4m~3/a,the resources that can be used for irrigation in the Mogao Grottoes area is 84.59×10~4m~3/a. With the Increase in the number of tourists, the existing water resources will not be able to meet the water demand in future. Based on the study, this paper proposed the water supply program to solve the water shortage, we prepare the water supply program from investment, administrative overhead, quantities etc. Finally, we choose the Dunhuang-Airport- Mogao Grottoes line from the water supply program we list as the water supply program for Mogao Grottoes. Finally, the paper proposed the countermeasure of water resources utilization and water environmental protection, we should Increase the rate of utilization of water resources and Implement wastewater reuse measures.
