With the development of economy, tourism consumption shares and ideas are changing, inducing high tourism travel ratios. Urban transportation receives huge pressure with large quantity visitors swarmed into cities in tourism season. As a result of less consideration for tourism demand in previous transportation planning, there are bad impacts on local resident trips and tourism quality.Aimed at understanding current situation of urban sightseeing activities and exploring their patterns, so as to plan tourism transportation lines more reasonably, this paper focuses on revealing the differences of tourism travel patterns and characteristics between local tourists and visitors from outside, based on an analysis of tourism behavior, surveyed within five main sites in Beijing. Consequently, travel patterns and tourism transportation characteristics of the two kinds of tourists are obtained.Based on SP survey data and BL model theory, this paper establishes tour bus selection model. The results show tour period, original travel mode choice, tourism purpose, sites quantity included in the route, distance between origin and the route are significant variables. Meanwhile, with the consideration of cost and current price criterions this paper renews the data and then new selection model is established. The results illuminate that tour period, original travel mode choice, sites quantity included in the route, costs are significant variables. High precision is proved by model test. With respect to tourism resources distribution and current transportation situation in Beijing, this paper proposes tour bus connect tourism sites, thus to induce travel mode switching from car to transit and to reduce the pressure of urban transportation during tourism seasons. Six tour bus routes are proposed, included two main routes with large passenger volumes and other four forward planning routes. According to respective characteristics, this paper makes suggestions on route direction, departure intervals, vehicles selection, operation seasons, ticket prices and information providing, etc. Moreover, quantitative and qualitative analysis are made to see travel mode shares changing and tourism value upgrading after starting tour buses.
