Cycling is a sport that aims to achieve high velocity by riding on bike. Like any other sports, cycling is a competition too, one important goal is to win. The result of cycling is achieved under the co-operation of Human-Bike-Environment. If the riders want to win the competition or achieve the ideal result, his/her bike should be so suitable that rider can exert all her physical strength and riding skills. Of course, it will be better if the bike can help riders perform out of his/her capacity.During the development of cycling, most of researchers either focused on bicycle design, or focused on riding skills, endurance training, potential training, strength training, pedaling training, and nutrition supplies and so on. However, they ignored the co-operation of Human and Bicycle. The excellent bicycle should be able to provide rider a good riding posture, which can not only avoid causing injuries of rider s body, but also transfer rider s power to the bicycle power efficiently.In those western countries where cycling has a long history, the development of bicycle design is mainly in such area-- we call it Customization Design Service, which means designing bicycle separately for every single rider to achieve the perfect combination of people and bike. In China, this technology and service is just beginning. Most of the designers are using such method that developed by foreign designers. However, there are many differences between western and eastern people, such as the different body ratios and different muscle situations, which may cause problem when they use foreign methods.In this paper, the study aims to fill out the technology gap between China and other western countries. First of all, this article choose self-organizing data mining as the data mining method by compare and analyze several data mining methods.Secondly, by analyzing the different injuries which caused by cycling and the characteristics of cycling, this article sum up the key dimensions of bike and key dimensions of people which have impact on bicycle sizes. Then collecting a sample which includes 211 riders body sizes and their bicycle sizes, find the quantitative relationships between them by taking advantage of self-organizing data mining.Thirdly, this article compares the bicycle frame that designed by Self-Organizing Data Mining with results of two other methods and Trek s bike frame, analyzes the difference, and proves the validity and advantage of this article s result. Finally, this article creates model of rider and bike separately and puts rider on the bike in CATIA. By modeling the different riding posture, this article analyzes body postures when crank in different positions according to the Ergonomics theory. Also corrects the relationship between saddle height and body sizes that achieved by Self-Organizing Data Mining.
