As information technology, computer science and network engineering in a wide range of transportation applications, such as GPS,AIS and other navigational aids to navigation have been introduced to provide more protection. In recent years,we have made considerable progress in ships operation aided by marine electronic equipment and the study of navigation safety based on these auxiliary systems. In order to more rational use of local natural conditions,at the same time,to provide a good ship sailing conditions,we should have the ships required size of navigation waters in the normal navigation, and fully take into account the requirements of the waters under the condition of the veer and avoidance, thus we can make scientific and rational conclusions and evaluations for the dimensions and sales of the channel in the practical application. There are many ways to measure the channel dimensions occupied by the ships. In general,we can reduce to four ways:First, the U.S.Amy Corps of Engineers made the ship observation on the Panama Canal, and put forward the track width of different types of the ships, and it gradually involved into the method with the multiples of that vessel width which were advanced in the 80th International Shipping Conference;Second,it is the method represented by Japan in the theoretical studies conducted on the basis of ship model tests, using the ship's length and drift angle to calculate;Third,it is the method represented by former Soviet Union using navigation and navaid facilities sensitivity; The last one is simulation study about simulator applied in Harbor and Waterway Engineering, according to ship motion equation and consideration of influence of airflow to simulate the ship through the channel and simulation results applied to Harbor and Waterway Engineering design and assessment of the safety of navigation. On the basis of an overview traditional survey and data processing method, this paper proposes a new statistical analysis method based on AIS dynamic and static information.Through the shore-based AIS station,we can receive all the information of the ships installed the AIS equipment in the surrounding waters, and obtain some static information, such as the ship's name, nationality, type and tonnage,as well as some dynamic information, such as the ship's position, course and speed. And at the same time the information we've got has the advantage of integrity and reliability. In addition, the observation is very simple, and the observed data which is transformed can be used for statistical analysis.Based on the ship's AIS dynamic and static information, this paper gets the tracks of sailing ship leaving or entering the ports under the metric system coordinates by the way of coordinate transformation of the ship's position information of latitude and longitude points and obtains the ship's track line in the direct fairway(preparation for the next step to calculate the width) according to fitted linear based on the least square method and turn radius.By statistical and analytical data can be drawn from the ship to port in flight, the actual use of waterways. To guide and standardize the new terminals and ports using these measured results not only can measure whether the existing facilities to meet the actual needs of the ship, but also to ensure that new construction of ships to meet the specialized and large-scale requirements.Relying on the project "open terminal design and construction of technical regulations-the waters of large vessels roundabout, braking distance, and the fairway scale ship measurement study" signed between water transport in the cross-Planning and Design Institute Co.Ltd.and Dalian Maritime University, this paper proposes a set of mathematical model used to study the port waters occupied by ship, and this paper puts the method as a case study in Xiamen, and achieves good results.
