Inspiration On Modern Architecture Design From Traditional Dwellings

After thousands of years' development, Chinese traditional timber framing dwelling has been very maturate in every respect such as its form, technology and culture. As a main carrier of Chinese civilization, its importance goes without saying. New materials, new arts and crafts, new technologies created from the Industrial Revolution have great impact on the world architecture system, with which the western architects grasped the rhythm gradually and made the world gorgeous and colorful. However, Chinese science and technology has fallen far behind because of the powerful feudal forces' closed-door policy, which decided the "students" position of the modern architects of China in the field and decided the research of Chinese Architecture is still in its initiation phase.It' s incumbent upon us to explore the Chinese modern architecture. As a small size build, villa has a flexible forms. It' s sensible to choose the design of villa as a breakthrough. And, China has a vast territory which makes great differences between the weather and regional situations. This article chooses southern Hunan as a research area, hoping to lead the traditional dwellings to the modern times, keeping its origin as well as showing its tendency of improvement.The article begins with the definition of villa , and then analyzes the differences of its development between Eastern and western countries, understands the context of architecture culture by analyzing its regional and cultural features, explores the most powerful element and brings forward a design plan of villa to stimulate the public awareness on it.
