Research On Environmental Sign System In City Historic District

China, as one of the four oldest civilizations in the world, has 5000 years history with deep historical and cultural details, and city historic districts spread all over the country. Of late years, with the continuous development of urban construction, myriads of city historic districts are to a certain extent of damage and impact. The fundamental cause is that people generally lack the comprehensive and correct understanding of the city history and culture. Consequently, in order to carry forward the history and culture and protect city historic districts, it is essential to design a environmental sign system for city historic district, not only to show the city historic and cultural resources better, but also make the city cultural vein continued very well. For the above purposes, this thesis is going to probe the design theory of the environmental sign system of the city historic districts from the perspective of relations of city public environmental art, historic districts protection and environmental identification. This thesis is going to give a separate chapter to take Confucius Temple District as an example, which is the most representative of Nanjing city historic districts, to research the design of environmental sign such as districts symbols (street signs), direction post, billboard and so on. The purpose of example is to provide a comprehensive and correct cognition platform to people, especially make the lost city historical and cultural heritage recognize in system again.Based on extensively collected materials, this paper is organized in six parts. The research method is based on document analysis, case study, and integration of field research and practice of design, preliminary summing up a set of design theory of historic district environmental sign with Chinese characteristic.Chapter One: comprehensive overview of research background, purpose, meaning, status of home and abroad, words, method and feature.Chapter Two: this thesis is going to commence with environmental identification system and city public environmental art, analyzing the relation between environmental identification system and city public environmental art.Chapter Three: This chapter is going to set out the vital function of environmental sign system in city historic districts protection, through the analysis of home and abroad outstanding cases.Chapter Four:This chapter is going to discuss environmental sign system deeply with analysis examples from the angle of detailed design theory, to make the research means of environmental sign system of city historic districts clear and definite.Chapter Five:Commencing with field research of Nanjing Confucius Temple District and it own district profiles, this chapter is going to practice the design of the district's environmental sign system and also give an analysis of the system.Chapter Six: the theoretical summary of the paper.
