A Research On Environmental Sign System Design Of Historical& Cultural City

Informatization is a great change of human's social activities, and the technical basis of this change is just the change to information processing, storage and the use and transmittal mode. This change will have a deep influence to human's culture and lifestyle. Sign system design is born under this situation, serving as a clear shunt, instruction, advisory and warning to the people in different circumstances. Sign system plays a very important role in city space, not only playing its proper directive function, but also embodying unique visual image of a city's mental outlook. A set of systemic, logical and scientific city environmental sign design, especially to a historical and cultural city, cannot only beautify its tourism environment, but also increase the city's serving function of tourism culture, showing its urban function and cultural connotation and being friendly and warm, good service, reasonable organization and simple and efficient. Meanwhile, direction mark is a cultural experience in the information age. When the tourists come into a certain tourism circumstance, they would feel the whole atmosphere through some details. Good sign design can also provide a friendly and pleasant mood for them.This thesis is divided into seven parts. It starts from the theoretical background of sign system, identifies relevant concepts of mark and sign system, analyzes the situation of sign design research at home and abroad and comparatively finds out the current situation of sign system design in China. Then the thesis investigates modeling elements of sign system, explaining the particularity of sign system of a historical and cultural city. After this, it discusses systemically the construction of sign system of a historical and cultural city. Taking Pingyao Ancient City as an example, the thesis does research, analysis and questionnaire survey on its inner space environment sign system, aiming to clear the necessity of establishing sign system in Pingyao Ancient City. Besides, the thesis analyzes its city orientation and current problems, redesigns its integrated planning and discusses design elements sign system that meets its environmental characteristics. Guided by design principles, it researches and designs a new sign system for Pingyao Ancient City under unified regulations. Lastly, the thesis makes a conclusion, points out the further research directions and puts forward the design proposal.
