Water supply system is the important public facility for the city's construction and development, and it is also the indispensable substantial element for people. However water distribution system(WDS) plays an important part of the water supply system,It not only accounts for 50%-80% cost of the total invest, but also has great influence on the power expenditure an the reliability of the whole system.Therefor,it is very important and significant to make optimal design for the WDS.By abalyzing the nonlinear characteristics of the object cost function of water supply network and studying the usual methods of optimizing the hydraulic parameters, mak use of the matlab genetic algorithm and direct search toolbox to simulate it,and compare with the least square method to simulate,it can obtain accurate and reliant result.By analyzing the existed optimal mode of design to WDS,consult others research production, a multi-objective model based on economy and reliability was put forword ,make it more rationality.and also introduce a new method for calculating the penalty factor by the technological and economic parameters of the water supply network,The randomness and blindness in determining the penalty factor are reduced.Choosing Epanet(a hydraulic simulation software) to calculate and combine with genetic algorithm.Using matlab language to workout a water supply netwok designing program. Finally ,this model is verified by its application on engineering project of the Qirah Urban Water Supply Network, analyzing the present water supply network,a new blue print was put forword.Compare to the traditional design method in economy and reliability, the result shows that this method has certain practical value.
