Row-lock cavity wall is a load-bearing structure and is often used in parts of south China, especially remote rural areas. Because of low vertical bearing capacity, especially horizontal bearing capacity, row-lock cavity wall has not enough bearing capacity, so that cracks are often found on row-lock cavity wall. It always shows havoc behind minor earthquake.Experimental research in allusion to the strengthening method of masonry building have been done at home and abroad, and they also bring forward some corresponding formula which is based on what they have done. However, they do little research for row-lock cavity wall strengthening research in rural areas. The formula that they advanced are not consistent with such cases very well. Thus, space-effective method of aseismatic strengthening row-lock cavity wall is an important value and necessity of the application.There are eleven row-lock cavity walls in this experiment. Three walls were new built ones, and the other eight were carried out a cyclic loading test first.Then, we use different strengthening method treat the damaged walls.After strengthening, the cyclic loading test will be carried out again to the strengthened walls. The test results show that some strengthening walls destroy for flexural strength and the others destroy for shear strength, when the walls are acted on horizontal load and vertical load. First crack load and limit load of the strengthened walls increase with wider amplitude, ductility ratio decreases, lateral stiffness and dissipative capability increase. With vertical load increasing, the first crack load, limit load, lateral stiffness and dissipative capability all increase, on the contrary, they decrease; With vertical load increasing, ductility ratio decreases, on the contrary, it increases.The theoretical formula of limit load is concluded in this article. According to the results of this test, the limit load formula of rural row-lock cavity masonry strengthened with high performance ferrocement laminate is put out, which is applicable to the majority of rural areas.
