The phenomenon of a large number of early damage associated with the development of China's highways. From the water damage to the track and cracking, the problems of how to control the early damage of asphalt pavement surface have been the focus of researcher's study. Hard asphalt and flexible base that widely used at abroad are both effective measures of preventing pavement from damage, and it now has been familiar with by domestic researchers. Against this background, this paper research on the pavement performance which applying hard asphalt to the mid and below surface or to the flexible base layer, which is an important development of applications and reference to the role of academic value.Though a large number of laboratory test, this paper mainly studies the content as follows:First, the conventional tests of asphalt and SHRP PG grading test. Research shows that hard asphalt has excellent high temperature performance, low-temperature performance deficiencies, but tests carried out in Henan province show it can also meet the road requirements.Second, according to the characteristic of the mid and below surface, this article select AC-20C , AC25C and ATB30, ATB40 which are commonly used in engineering to do tests. Through the Marshall specimen volume indicators to determine their best than oilstone.Third, do the mixture performance tests. Mainly concluding track test, the limits of tensile test, water stability test, fatigue test. The results show that the hard asphalt has better pavement performance than SBS modified asphalt and matrix asphalt, such as high temperature stability, fatigue-resistant properties. The study shows that hard asphalt is suitable for the application of mid and below surface, and it has broad application prospects.
