This research is mainly about the stressed skin diaphragm in light-guage steel stud walls of the low-dwelling-house, which is widely used. In the structure design, light-guage steel frame is an unstable system. While, the sheets (gypsum board and oriented strand board) can work together with the structures if proper connections are made between the sheets and surrounding members, which will increase the strength and stiffness of the whole structure. Considering the influence of stressed skin diaphragm can help the model more accord with the condition of practical structure, which also produces considerable economic advantage. So it is significant and practical to develop the effect of stressed skin diaphragm in light-guage steel stud walls.This paper adopts numerical model to simulate the stressed skin diaphragm with ANSYS, which is a finite element software, based on the results of exist experiments. Moreover, the failure mechanism and working behaviors of the stressed skin diaphragm are intensive studied. Meanwhile, based on abundant results of numerical calculation, the influence factors and influencing mechanics of stressed skin diaphragm are discussed from three aspects: members,fasteners and wall plates. The results show that the mechanical property and the arrangement of the fasteners have the greatest influence on the structures, and the influence of other factors can be realized only by the fastenings. With reasonable assumptions, this paper derives the formula of the optimum distance of two types of the fasteners, and effectiveness of the formula is verified by compared with the simulation results. Finally, the influence of the area, the arrangement and the border members of openings on the diaphragms is researched.Some important conclusions are arrived through numerical simulation in this paper, which can provide valuable references for the designing of the stressed skin diaphragm in the practical engineering.
