Quality of braking performance is directly related to traffic safety. It is an important factor that causes traffic accident and brings more potential hazards. Therefore, braking performance is one of key motor vehicle safety test items. At present, China has adopted the regular inspection of motor vehicle safety system to determine the technical conditions. Braking performance eligibility is determined by national vehicle safety technical standard (GB7258-2004). General eligibility of vehicle is only judged by the request of this standard, but actually braking performance has not yet reached best because actual operating condition of specific vehicle had not be considered. In this paper, braking performance is evaluated and optimized based on the test results of vehicle safety, and suggestion is given to obtain the better quality.At first, the existing technical requirements of vehicle braking performance are analyzed on the basis of relevant standards (GB 7258-2004 and GB 12676-1999). The factors which reflect braking efficiency are also analyzed. It includes braking distance, braking deceleration or braking force. Braking force distribution is expounded, which effects directly directional stability and the use of extent of conditions attached in braking. Second, based on the theoretical analysis of the braking system, the structure, the principle of work and characteristic of braking force adjusting device were described. Actual operating conditions are attached great importance, such as loaded weight, braking intensity and so on. Braking force distribution optimization model is established. Finally, evaluation and suggestion system of braking performance is developed based on optimization model and solution. Calculation and analysis of several examples have proved that this software is stable and reliable in operation, accurate and effective in calculation, easy and friendly in applicationVehicle parameters and test results are input data in this software, and braking performance are calculated and optimized according to the concrete vehicle and actual operating conditions. Suggestions are proposed on the basis of analytical results to gain better braking performance so that driving safety is assured. Nowadays, motor vehicle safety inspection go into marketization in all directions, this software will help to promote service level institution and market competition of inspection, and also have preferable practical significance and market value.
