Filter is a very important part in the ventilation system of electric locomotive. It is also a pivotal facility which can ensure the stabilization and life-span of electric locomotive. The type of GL louver filter is a new kind of product applying on electric locomotive and there is only just a little experiment research about the new filter by technicians in corporations. For reducing the periods and expenditure on designing, this paper uses technique of Computational Fluid Dynamics to study the type of GL louver filter roundly and find the law that the parameters of performance how to change , and then gives some advice to the product designers.The research about performance of filter relates to gas-solid two-phase flow. This paper introduced the research methods of two-phase flow at the beginning and reviewed the researching general situation about other filters which were similar with the type of GL louver filter. There were four turbulence models mentioned in this paper and all of them were used to simulate the gas phase flow. Comparing the simulated result and experiment data, the turbulence model named Realizable k-εwas affirmed as the optimal model. The paper used the particle trajectory model based on the coordinate system of Euler-Lagrangian to study the law of the particle movement. The reasons which caused the difference between the simulated result and experiment data were analyzed in detail.The effect of running parameters, structural parameters and form on the performance parameters of the GL louver filter was researched mostly in the paper. The performance of three type filters applying on electric locomotive was analyzed and compared. The results show: (1) With the inlet velocity increasing, the pressure drop of the GL louver filter is also increasing while the separation efficiency is reducing. The filter has different separation efficiency with the different diameter particles. The mass concentration of particle also has some influence on the performance parameters of filter. (2) The pressure drop and separation efficiency of the GL louver filter are sensitive to the three structural parameters. The structural parameters of the GL louver filter we have are optimal value. (3) If the filter has a bar of guiding wind, the bar of guiding wind should not be simple and its lee should have a function of leading airflow. If the collecting dust bar of filter has a tail, the pressure drop of the filter is a little lower than the one which has not a tail. The tail of collecting dust bar has no influence on separation efficiency. (4) Comparing the performance parameters of the type of V-V filter and the cyclone separator using on electric locomotive and GL louver filter by numerical simulation, the pressure drop of V-V filter and the cyclone separator is much higher and the separation efficiency is a little better than GL louver filter.
