The paper takes the power grid of CNOOC JZ9-3 oil field as research background,and introduces the characteristics and composition of the grid in the region systematically. Through the large research and the introduction of harmonic theory, reactive compensation and the technical requirements of the client, some practical methods of reactive power compensation and harmonic governance has been analyzed systematically. At last, the plan using Thyristor Switched Filters (TSF) for compensation and harmonic governance of the power grid on offshore platform is put forward after comparison. After testing harmonic characteristics and related technical data of the offshore platforms, this paper designed the program for reactive power compensation and harmonic management, used the genetic algorithm (GA) toolbox of MATLAB to design and optimize TSF parameters. Finally, simulation system was set up through the MATLAB / SIMULINK toolbox. The Good simulation results validated the feasibility of the implementation of the program.(1)Introducing the research background of JZ9-3 offshore platform and technical requirements of the client. Summarizing the basic requirements of the power grid quality and harmonic in foreign and domestic power system , as well as the basic methods of reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression on the basis of reading a large of documents;(2) Considering the power grid of JZ9-3 offshore platform, the basic characteristics is summed up; according to the offshore environment and climate characteristics, the specific requirements of equipment selection are put forward by referring to CNOOC《ODP Report on the development of WHPA platform in JZ9-3 region》while reactive compensating and harmonic eliminating on the offshore platforms;(3) In allusion to current status of harmonic, several management measures are given as following: 1) Passive Power Filter; 2) Static Var Compensator (SVC); 3) active power filter (AFP). According to the actual situation of power grid,the comprehensive management plan is put forward through comparing the merits and demerits of several governance measures-thyristor switched fiters to be used for compensating and filtering. Finally, the paper carried out the detailed program design and theoretical calculation;(4) Through the actual technical data of offshore oil platform, the theoretical calculation and analysis of subject are carried out. The genetic algorithm (GA) toolbox of MATLAB is used for designing and optimizing filter parameters, the compensation filter system is simulated through the MATLAB / SIMULINK toolbox,and the effect of the Thyristor Switched filter is analyzed when it works with reactive power compensation and harmonic suppression.(5)The paper summed up inadequacies of the researches on reactive power compensation and harmonic governance of the offshore oilfield, and carried out a prospect of follow-up study. Considering the limited space and reliability of the offshore oil platform, the hybrid active filter and three tunable filter are brought up to improve the quality of power grid.
