Study On Water Crisis In Minqin County

Being downstrem Shiyang River, Minqin County blocks the front area of both Badanjilin and Tenggeli deserts so that Minqin Oasis plays the most significant role that protect Hexi Corridor, that is why the safty of Minqin Oasis has great influence on Hexi Corridor, even Chinese nation. In this case, Minqin is ecologically not only a county for Minqin region and Wuwei region but also for the whole China. A series of problem for ecological environment worsening because of lacking water resources exists for a long time. Therefore, the research for the water resources and its using conditions is a quite important task for other regions to keep using water resources and to provide basis in improving the ecological environment.The dissertation is analyzing the water resource system in Minqin Region to find out the following reasons below: 1. Snow line rising, ice cap and ice water runoff reducing because of climate warming. The number of transpiration is increasing for temperature rising, but the rainfall is not enough to supplement; 2. Upstream water volume decreasing. The climate is getting arid and Minqin County has already nearly became a desert where people can't live in because of dam impoundment for reclamation and the ecological environment worsening quickly in Qilian Mountain and the surrounding area; 3. Underground water mining excessively. The river water volume decreasing leads to mine the underground water for developing the economy so that the long-term unsustainable mining makes a series of ecological problem: underground funnel, water quality worsening, land deserting and vegetation dying greatly; 4. The water consumption is large in agricultural production but the benefit is low.By analyzing the states and causes, I point out the strategies and methods of changing the ecological condition in Minqin Region which are following: 1. Continuing policy of closing wells and reducing fields; 2. Changing planting structure, improving developing speed of facility agriculture; 3. Using Virtual Water mechanism, carrying out saving water policy and agriculture; 4. stoping plowing to protect forest and grass, supplying grain to farmers instead of subsidy, but supplying subsidy to farmers who give up farming field; 5. Driving ahead cities construction vigorously, developing ecological tourism.
