Planetary Gear Reducer (PGR) is a new type of reducer which is based on the combination of active gear and cycloid gear planetary-driven. It is invented by the Xi'an University of Science and Technology and has been authorized the national patent (Patent No. 02224579.0) in March 2002. As an improved reducer, the performances of the PGRare very important for the designers. Designers have apply themselves to designing the PGR with high efficiency, low noise, small vibration, low temperature riser. However, it is difficult for the PGR to achieve computational efficiency and other designed parameters in actual use because such factors effect it as structure of the reducer and the calculated value is given in the ideal state. The efficiency of the reducer is lower than the theoretical value affected by machining accuracy, constructional accuracy, the conditions and other factors, so it is necessary to testing the transmission efficiency and other related parameters in order to provide a basis for improved design. Therefore, it is very necessary and meaningful to design a special testing system for the PGR. With the development and improvement of virtual instrument technology, it will be a trend for the testing of the reducer to design virtual test system by using of virtual instrument technology.Firstly, this paper introduces the development of testing technology as well as the basic working principle of the PGR, and analyses the contents and methods of the testing of the PGR, and determines the main parameters of the reducer; Using PCI-6014 data acquisition card, NB100-type torque transducer, E18-DS10NK infrared photoelectric switch, Pt100 platinum resistance and other devices, this paper sets up the hardware platform of this virtual testing system; It provides the algorithm for programming to analyse and calculating the testing principle of the main parameters of the PGR; The virtual testing system, which is designed by use of the software of LabVIEW, has the functions of testing such parameters of PGR as the input and output torque, input and output speed, transmission efficiency, temperature, vibration, noise and others, and it has the functions of data registering, waveform displaying, data preservation, data analyzing and processing.Under the existing experimental conditions, this paper validates some functions of the virtual testing system. Through comparing and analysising the results tested by the virtual testing system with exact approximations tested by the traditional instruments, this paper gets the errors between them. The results show that the error is big when testing the speed, so this paper analysis the reason for the error. However, the experimental results also showed that the noise testing module and temperature testing module can meet the testing requirements and the accuracy requirements of relevant provisions. This virtual testing system is simple, user-friendly and universal.
