Micro-reducer as a new type of reducer emerged in recent years. They are widely used in automotive and other fields. It has large transmission ratio, small size, high mechanical efficiency, as well as the advantages of long life. Testing the mechanical properties for micro-reducer products becomes the urgent needs of enterprises.This paper analyzed the constitution and working principle of the existing mechanical transmission testing devices. It has also done a comprehensive, in-depth, systematic study on the data acquiring technology, testing and analysis technology, digital measuring technology and software development technology based on virtual instrument. The paper put forwards the new plan to design the test system based on the virtual instrument technology: firstly designed and selected the hardware components of the testing and controlling system, then designed and developed the test software of the system, and finally carried out error analysis and experiments.In hardware design, micro-reducer performance test systems used variable frequency electric motor as power source. Magnetic particle brake was used to accomplish system loading. Motors, magnetic powder brake and micro-reducer connected with the torque speed sensor which used for measuring input/output through the shaft couplings. The paper discussed how to choose the suitable method for data acquisition. In the mechanical structure design, an integrated experimental table and the control cabinet was designed for the testing system.About the software, The paper followed the principles of object-oriented programming, in the top-down design way and under modular program design ideas, compiling a set of program to realize the controlling, data acquiring, analyzing and processing, drawing up efficiency diagram on the windows and print it out, etc.At last, through the error analysis and a lot of experiments, the paper proved that, attempting to apply virtual instrument technology and computer control technology in reducer performance testing system is successful. It can replace the traditional testing methods to realizing the entire function, and improved the test capability of the system and its scalability; it not only reduced costs, but also improved the level of automation and reliability. Anyway, it is a good project that is worth to popularizing.
