Chengdu Municipal People's Government launched the comprehensive restoration project of Sha River in 2001 , which focused on ecology and sustainability through pollution abatement and urban landscaping. Afterwards the waterfront environmental quality of Sha River was improved greatly and Sha River won the"International Thiess Riverprize"in 2006.But with the increase of recreational and ecological aesthetic needs of users, the development model of waterfront, which emphasizes greenbelt and squares, can't satisfy the public demand fully. So it was necessary to consider the change of user's demand in waterfront landscape planning, construction and management process. Therefore based on the needs of users, comprehensive evaluation of built waterfront landscape of Sha River was carried out in order to get the public evaluation on present waterfront landscape status of Sha River which is useful for future improvement and other river restoration projects.Waterfront landscape of Sha River was investigated according to the theory of post occupancy evaluation. First the present waterfront landscape status of Sha River was investigated in person and the type of landscape was classified. Then the evaluation data was obtained through questionnaires by web and field investigation, from which public weight of evaluation and overall satisfaction evaluation were analyzed. The comprehensive evaluation of Sha River and its eight scenes were calculated using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The evaluation difference of users was analyzed using the method of variance analysis. In the end the conclusion showed that users preferred most to the nature and ecology side of waterfront landscape Users'overall evaluation of Sha River was good, in which waterfront vegetation and naturalness of river bank were highly commended especially for the upper river. However, the waterfront land utilization must be further improved and the activities close to water should be enriched based on users'needs.
