Considering the extreme working condition of laser gyros, a very high assurance of performance is required before they are shipped from the factory. This assurance is provided with comprehensive factory acceptance testing. Presently, all test sections need manipulation of workers, which leads to low-level efficiency. In the future, the scale of gyro production will be lager and larger, the original test procedure will be the bottle-neck. The goal of the study is to meet the large scale production in the future and develop a factory automatic testing system, which can manage the testing procedures and testing data without the intervention of humanbeings.In the hardware aspect, in order to test the laser gyro and laser gyro scope separately, two kinds of testing platforms are needed, one for the former, another for the later. In the test platform, many working units were embodied such as the chassis,the power support,the readout signal processing board,the main board etc. In order to process the readout signal, programmable logic device was employed in which a soft core processor was embodied. A new kind of FIR digital filter algorithm was developed, which could reduce the filter operation time in some cases. The main board communicates with testing computer directly; it has an USB engine, so the throughput is improved greatly. The operating instruction of test platform was made according to the SCPI grammar standard.In the software aspect, a gyro testing system was designed which included many testing sections,so the working parameters of the gyro could be changed as desired and the test automation was realized. A data management system based on C/S structure was employed in the testing network, an SQL server database was installed in the server, which accepted the testing data of all clients, so the data management was improved. By means of socket programming, network based testing surveillance software was developed, through which the server could supervise every client, remote control was also available.The results of testing experiments show that the automatic testing system can improve the testing efficiency greatly and keep the high precision of old system.
