Operation problem of district heating system in Chengyin region is surveyed and studied in this paper. Literature information in home and abroad is looked for and analyzed. On the base of hydraulic and thermodynamic calculation, indirect heating system technological process is designed and optimized. The system operation and adjustment is easy and safe.According to indirect heating system technological process, main equipments of this system are studied and selected economically and reasonably. Thermal stations scales are studied. The disadvantage of great thermal stations size is analyzed. Bigger thermal stations should be divided into several smaller ones in order to make the heating scale much more reasonable, and so that to operate and adjust much more convenient.Operation and adjustment method of thermal stations is researched to make the actual flow of indirect heating system close to the design flow. Hydraulic balance of this pipeline networks is achieved. The operation method that high flow rate but low temperature difference is changed. The new system operates stably up to the present. The social and economic effects of this system are both quite significant.
