Construction is the crystallization of culture, traditional architecture of China is broad and profound, and is a treasure house of Chinese civilization. It is the the whole society's common responsibility to preserve, inherit and develop the excellent heritage of traditional construction.Since the reform and opening up, our country's economy has developed swiftly, a large number of buildings have been row upon row and the cityscape has changed with each new day. Under the gratifying situation, what worries us is the essence of national architecture left by ancestor suffering from threat, and awaits protection. However, the significance of protecting national construction is not only to preserve the traditional construction, and more importantly, to inherit and develop the "context" of traditionally national construction. In the development process of human culture's formation, due to the differences of geography, ethnicity, climate and natural environment, it forms diverse cultural identities, so that the culture of each region has a unique cultural value. Xinjiang's cultural trait differs from other areas, because of the geographical location and diversity of the natural environment, as well as the speciality of cultural contacts in history.which is a typical representative of this culture from the traditional houses inTurpan, Xinjiang Uygur. Uyghurs create its own unique culture of residence based on their own customs, moral values and aesthetic tastes. As an integral part of construction, residence is not only practical, but it presents a nation's trend toward the heritage and aesthetic value of its own culture. This paper gives a complete description of the building features of Uygur traditional residence in the Turpan region, based on the relatively well-preserved traditional residence to analyse and interpret the residence's space concept and patterns, and conclude the contemporary designing idea of Turpan traditional residence. Thus, it can explore a sound development way from the shaping of contemporary Turpan Uygur traditional residence's characteristics and have a positive and practical significance to the planning design and construction of contemporary Xinjiang Uygur traditional residence.
