With the expansion of power transmission grid scale, the influence and the scopes of fault disturb will also be expanded. It is very important for the operators to know how to obtain fault information, schedule rapidly, and reduce the economic losses. Therefore, the research on the fault diagnosis of power transmission grid, and seeting up the intelligent fault diagnosis system for regional power transmission grid are the vital means of rapid schedule, fault elimination, power supply resuming. These are important method to guarantee the safety, stability, economic of power transmission grid. They also have a theoritcal and realistic significance.On the basis of analysis of fault diagnosis, the dissertation put forward an idea of fault diagnosis for power transmission grid based on optimal technology. Through the analysis of requirement of power transmission grid fault diagnosis, the problem of fault diagnosis can be expressed as 1-0 integer planner problems according of logical relation between the equipment protection and breaker action. As a result, the problem of fault diagnosis can be described as a model of optimal result. The Hypothesis which explains the alarm signals can be found by the best result. Through the theoretical research, optimal model of fault diagnosis for power transmission grid based on the Covering Set Theory and objective function can be found. According of dependable degree of the alarm signals, it add believable element that increase accuracy of fault diagnosis. Otherwise, the objective function make used of the Tabu Search algorithm for its result. The algorithm can be improved. Then it accord with requirement of calculation speed and effect. Finally, an actual calculated example validated this method of fault diagnosis for regional power transmission grid based on optimal technology which diagnose fault rapidly and accurately. This method of fault diagnosis achieves the expecting aim.
