As we know, as a part of the automobile unit, the frame takes all kinds of complex loads that from the road, and there are lots of important units of the auto take the frame as its install carrier, so the intensity and rigidity of the frame play the very important role in the overall design of automobile. We can take the performance analysis of the frame structure by using FEM, considering the optimization of the frame structure right at the design time, which has an important sense of these following things, such as improving all kinds of performance of the whole auto, reducing the design and production cost and strengthens the market competitiveness.This paper according to Honda cup energy conservation vehicle race's request, firstly, designed the frame structure for YD02-type energy-saving car by use UG and built the geometric model of the frame; secondly, take the FEM technology as its foundation, get united to modern computer technology, established the frame structure's FEM model which based on the shell element and simplified the model; thirdly, based on the FEM model, taken the static analysis for the frame, and received the stress distribution of all kinds of static conditions, and confirmed the accuracy of the model through the experiment, proposed improve suggestion for the unreasonable structure in the first time's design, and verified that the improved mode was basically meet the requirement -ts of the design; lastly, taken the modal analysis, and based on this, studied the frame displacement responds that caused of the harmonic force, which outputted from the engine(harmonic response analysis),in order to examine the vibration of every part of energy saving car, and made the comparison with the modal analysis'results, thus analyze whether it coupled its nature frequency and caused resonance. Through FEM analysis, on the one hand, checked the structure of the frame strength and stiffness; on the other hand, proposed suggestions of the unreasonable structure, which satisfied lightweight design of the energy saving race car.Through the comparison of test and FEM analysis of the YD02 energy saving race car's frame structure, received something beneficial conclusion, which provided the instruction of the frame design.The method and process of FEM analysis of the frame of energy saving race car in this paper suit all kinds of frame's design and analysis.
