With the rapid development of scientific and technological level, a growing number of new technologies used in the defense industry products, so that the design of weapons and equipment, production levels have been significantly improved. In this background, combining with new type of sensor technology and virtual instrument technology, a automatic measurement system was designed in this paper, which demanded in exact detecting manufacturing precision of artillery chamber while the process of machining artillery tube.First, by understanding the meaning of problems in exact detecting artillery chamber geometrical parameters and domestic measurement methods at present, the author analyzed measurement problems, put forward corresponding necessity of this design.Secondly, based on new type of sensor technology, designed and compare three measurement programs, were respectively based on displacement sensor measurement, based on super depth of field 3-d microscope system measurement and based on ring laser measurement. This paper explained hardware structure and realization process in detail. Then, based on analysis, comparison the accuracy, economy, feasibility of three measurement methods, based on displacement sensor measurement ultimately was determined the requirements for the actual measurement.Geometric quantities of artillery chamber automatic measuring system as a measuring instrument must be calibrated before use. Therefore, this paper designed a calibration method for the measuring device. By reference calibration specifications, provided calibration error index, Calibration environment index and so on,and designed calibration methods of the axial and the radial measuring devices, coaxiality of centering apparatus, rail straightness.Finally, the paper designed control circuits of the measurement system, combination of virtual instrument technology, designed processing software, and introduced in detail implementing scheme of measurement system, including axial and radial sensor data acquisition, axial stepper motor drive control and calibration accuracy compensation, display and analysis of error, database storage and access, completed assessment of the processing chamber of the quality.The design combined with the existing equipments to validate programs and functions of measurement system. The design results showed that the design able to meet the requirements that the artillery chamber geometrical to accurately measure.
