The column of RC frame structure is the main component of horizontal earthquake resistance as well as the vertical load bearing. Therefore, the damage of the RC frame column largely influences the seismic performance of the frame structure. Through cyclic loading tests of six half-scaled RC frame columns, the paper mainly studied the seismic performance of RC frame columns. To fully understand the seismic performance of structural column, experimental tests and theoretical analyses are conducted, covering some important issues on frame column's force resistance performance, i.e., damage form and hysteretic characteristics, skeleton curve, ductility, energy dissipating capacity and stiffness degradation under seismic load. Study of influence of different axial compression force ratios on seismic performance of RC frame column provides consolidated experimental and theoretical basis for seismic analysis and design of such structural frame components. Through research on seismic damage propagation, comparison of experiment damage results and the corresponding computed general damage index was made, and evaluation of the damage model adaptive to structural frame column was conducted. The seismic damage model based on the modified Park-Ang model could be used for the frame columns to top priority.
