The Empirical Research On The Space Constitute And Update & Protection Of Traditional Riverside Villages In Western Zhejiang And Southern Anhui Area

Being the basic unit of social structure in rural area, Riverside Village is a common but immportant type of Chinese traditional ones. Its past, present and future deserves further attention and a in-depth study.This paper systematically studies Qinghu and Xixi, two typical riverside villages in Western Zhejiang and southern Anhui area, in their original space constitutes and current update and protection practices, trying to find the inherent patterns of space constitutes in Riverside Village. And thus, more reasonable proposals can be made and used in the two villages' future update and protection practices as well as other similar ones in China.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, three parts are discussed in this paper. The first part contains two chapters: Chapter One and Chpter Two. Started from the description of theoretical researches and pratical developments in the update and protection of the traditional villages, this part mainly introduces relevent concepts, theories, methods and practices.Taking Qinghu and Xixi as two typical samples, the second part, constituted by Chapter Three, analysizes their space constitutes with the Urban Image theory as well as field investigation and does some comparative studies of space constitutes between two villages in five aspects which are the overall layout, the streets and alleys, interface, node and public building.Based on the practice of conservation planning of the two villages, part three which is made by Chapter Four , further analysizes their developing trends and the problems they meet, and describes the objectives and content of the update and protection of villages.Finally, this paper summarizes the characteristics and the inherent patterns of space constitutes of Qinghu and Xixi, and also presents a general outlook of futue protection work of traditional villages nationwide.
