In thermal power plant, the measurement of the coal powder in the primary air pipeline is important to the safety, economical efficiency and reliability of the power boiler combustion. The mixture of coal powder and primary air belongs to typical gas-solid two-phase flow, whose parameter is difficult to detect. The paper provides a measurement method based onγ-ray absorption law. The y point source was used and fixed at the shell of pipe of sensor device; by collimating device, the outgoing beam of theγrays was assumed at the plane 360°through the pipe which is conveying coal powder. The strength ofγrays is measured by ring type detectors array which is distributed outside of shell of pipe. Afterward the volume concentration of coal powder could be calculated. The proving experiment is designed and carried out, it testified the feasibility and accuracy of this measurement method.
