The Lalin River to Changchun section of Changchun-Harbin expressway (namely the Chang Yu Expressway) is a major north-south national route linking the Tongjiang and Sanya, which passes through the northern part of Jilin Province, is the key highway construction projects of Communications Ministry during the period "nine-fifth", and is the major gateway from Jilin and Heilongjiang Province to Liaoning province and other provinces. It's built to enhance the transport links, to ease the transport tensions, to accelerate the rapid economic development along the route between the three northeast provinces and three northeastern provinces and other provinces. It has great practical significance and far-reaching historical significance.Using the SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt mixture) as the surface layer material in the Chang-Yu Expressway is the first time in Jilin Province. the guiding principles of quality control management during the highway construction always is "aiming at the international quality standards and striving to be national first-class quality". By the way to learn the advanced technology at home and abroad, summed up recent 10 years highway construction experience in the province, based on the contract, specifications and laws, and conducted regulate flexible precise project management, it effectively controlled the overall construction quality in Chang-Yu Expressway.Depending on Chang-Yu Expressway and introducing the quality control concept of whole process, we have systematic study the SMA mixture surface layer in theses aspects: single material selection, mixture design, pavement construction control, pavement test and others. In this paper, a series of study work have done and some results have achieved.1. Screening and testing for SMA single material. To procure asphalt, stone, slag and additives depending by the way of tender, those raw materials are used in asphalt road. For the first time it appointed the upper layer of modified asphalt shall meet the requirements of PG64-34 under the climate conditions. Definitely request the production process and quality control indicators for diversified materials. Sending experienced supervisory to the manufacturer in order to conduct quality supervision and management.2. To improve grading range of the Communications Ministry by Learning from research results of the United States SHPR. Basing on tests and engineering investigations, a reasonable gradation and technology indicators of mixture have been addressed in surface, middle and below layers, which is help to solve early disease of asphalt pavement in expressway. The pavement compaction was increased from 95% required by the Communications Ministry to 98%, which effectively control the void rate of asphalt mixture after construction and achieved a very good technical and economic effect.3. A reasonable construction control temperature for SMA is achieved through research. Mixture quality is improved because of dust control.4. To reform the traditional compaction process. Paying attention to experimental research of construction technology and comparison of technology tests, improve and perfect the traditional roller compacted methods of mixture construction. The study on the whole process quality control of SMA in this paper has proposed targeted solutions, which provides a good reference for the early destruction of high class asphalt pavement in seasonal frozen regions.Because of the entire process, comprehensive quality control, the SMA concrete pavement of Chang-Yu Expressway demonstrated better than other types of asphalt pavement in many road performance aspects after a period of time usage. However, after long-term follow-up investigation and testing revealed that there still are varying degrees weeping, rutting and other diseases. The author believes that the following aspects should also be studied and improved in the follow-up of the SMA pavement construction, such as: traffic volume and the design specifications, to consider the impact of test temperature on the indicators, to improve reasonably Marshall Test, to strengthen the process test research and the temperature control of mixture. The aiming is to achieve more satisfying results.
