With the fast development of computer technology, the technology of rapid design is becoming the new develop direction in modern design method, which is being researched more widely and gaining more attentions. Aiming at the disadvantages of low use of reuse design and experience in current design of skeleton-structure products, a new method of rapid design for product is presented and its corresponding design system is developed in this paper based on the concrete demand of company. The main works include:A new rapid design method based on component theory is proposed by studying structure characteristics of skeleton product. This paper mainly discusses the forms of component information, the action and instantiation of component, which oriented to reuse design for mechanical product. The key technology of rapid design based on component theory is also studied. The application of top-down method in rapid design is discussed, and the process of reuse design in layer of geometrical and knowledge is described. The knowledge model is categorized in four types which described as formula, rule, diagram, and design document. The component technology of identification, modeling, classification and storage are also studied in focus, and then, principle of component division is established. Technology of component design based on feature is introduced, and the method of component classification is proposed. The method of input-feature design based on relation chain is proposed to improve efficiency of skeleton design.Based on the foregoing research, a system of rapid design for skeleton structure product, including four sub-systems such as component manage sub-system, knowledge manage sub-system, rapid design system manager, and component instantiation sub-system, is developed on CATIA to provide a approach to aided-design and aided-study. The application of new method in design of rolling stock body is also presented to verify its effectiveness.
