Having been designed to service for 15 years, a great many highways of two or three years in China have suffered early damage, such as tracking, crazing and potholes and so on. A large number of researches show that it does have some relevance with the widely applied structure of semi-rigid base asphalt pavement.To conquer this problem and referring to foreign asphalt pavement, asphalt treated macadam flexible base pavement, which is also known as perpetual pavement or long-life asphalt pavement has been introduced. It occupies high strength, rigidity and excellent fatigue resistence and can restrain and reduce the development of reflecting crack efficiently. It has been used in high way and overload highway of Europe and America, resulting in favorable consequence. But the study of it has just started in our country.My paper firstly conducts the asphalt stable macadam mixture by means of the huge marshell test to determine the optimum bitumen-aggregate ratio. Secondly, it analyzes the stable macadam's strength mechanism and road performance and recommends certain theory about road mechanics and elastic multilayer system. Then the finite element program ANSYS has been adopted to establish the solid model and the dynamic response of three trial pavement sections under the traveling load has been analyzed to reveal the road's mechanic character. At last, a result has been concluded that asphalt treated macadam flexible base pavement takes advantages over semi-rigid base asphalt pavement in mechanic feature.In addition, some research about inner stress of the road structure has been studied to further study the mechanic feature of asphalt treated macadam flexible base pavement. Through analyzing the mechanics response of different inner spots in this structure, the most disadvantageous position of the mechanics response is found. Here it uses the surface deflection, bottom tensile stress, shearing strength and top pressure stress of the most disadvantageous position as the major elements to analyze the variation of the stable macadam basement modulus, the contact of flexible basement and concrete stable macadam basement and the effect of overload. At the end, the paper also discusses the road model filled with geogrid and steel and compares the effect of the two structure models.The above research reveals the reasonable elastic modulus and thickness variation of the stable macadam basement as well as the influence of the contact of flexible basement, overload and the road model filled with geogrid on the mechanics response of road structure, thus accumulating experience for the further study of asphalt pavement with asphalt treated base.
