For global environmental problems involving the resources shorts and degradation, the early modeling for the control of the pipe end is no longly fully satisfied with the demand in economic and resource aspects. As an analysis tool of a preventive environmental management, LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method is effective, which can evaluate environment load of product during the whole life cycle stage. As expected, this stage involves raw materials acquisition, transport, manufacturing, use, maintenance and disposal. According to the principles of the guiding concerning ISO 14040-14043, this paper is to develop an approach of evaluating a relatively complete ship LCA, based on the theory and practical products respectively, in order to guide the design and transformation in the ship cleaner production and the green design.In this paper, a relatively complete ship LCA model is established, including the purpose and scope determining, inventory analysis, life cycle impact assessment and interpretation. Further, this model is used for inventory analysis and impact assessment on the life cycle stages of the specific ship steel (steel production, transportation, construction and operation). The results shows, the most important life cycle environmental impact type for ship steel is photochemical smog, followed by global warming, eutrophication, acidification and dust in the selected environmental impact types. Meanwhile, the largest environmental impact is the operation stage, followed by steel production stage, steel transport and construction stage is relatively small in the selected life cycle stages. This result is similar to the relevent studies. Meanwhile, the type of Chinese environmental impact, standard equivalent and the weight values used in this paper is more suitable to the current environment of our state.Ship design stage is the best period for processing ship life cycle environmental performance. By adopting Ship materials life cycle assessment system (LCA-SHIP), ship design parameters are changed to obtain the relevant environmental impact. And the relationship between environmental impact assessment and the main dimensions of ship, the weight of ship steel, the power consumption of ship main engine, the main engine and fuel type is reflected.
