With the retain number of automobile increasing, the environment problem and energy crisis are getting worse, as the result,the new energy automobile makes the hot spot of the car company and research institution. Under intense analysis of the global car industry, I come to a conclusion that hybrid electric vehicle is the optimal route to realize the new energy industry at the present conditions.Based on the hybrid electric bus project from DongFeng Yangtze bus company, the plug-in hybrid electric bus was researched.Due to the diversity of the hybrid electric vehicle structure, it's key to design a transmission system, based on the WG6120, with simple mechanism, compact arrangement, high transmission efficiency and excellent control strategy. This thesis started with the analysis of the power system structure of different hybrid electric vehicle, and compared the advantages and disadvantages of different hybrid electric vehicles power system structure. It mainly introduced the advantages and disadvantages of PHEV and the challenges. In the end, it chose the single axle parallel hybrid to design the plug-in city bus.The thesis put forward the design based on the bus road condition when matching parameter of the WG6120 and then chose the parameters of the engine, motor, batteries and the transmission. It researched the control strategy of parallel hybrid vehicle including power supplementary control strategy, fuzzy logic control strategy, adaptive control strategy and so on. Then the control strategy of this PHEV bus based on the Chinese typical city bus road condition was designed. In the hybrid electric simulating software ADVISOR, the thesis did the secondary development based on its original single-axial parallel hybrid electric vehicle model and built the engine model, the motor model, the battery model and the transmission model, then created the M file through compiling. In the mean time, it imported the Chinese typical city bus road condition control strategy model into the ADVISOR2002, then built the control strategy for this bus in the MATLAB/SIMULINK and also imported into the ADVISOR2002, finally used the GUI to do the simulation analysis. After that, it got the acceleration performance, climbing performance, max speed, the vehicle fuel consumption per hundred kilometers under the Chinese typical city bus road condition, the working point distribution map of engine and motor. The results showed that the power performance and the fuel economy of the designed hybrid electric bus in this thesis are better than the prototype bus.
