This paper analyses the principle of transformer winding's instability of radiation and axial direction under short circuit conditions, and studies two major factors of transformer short-circuit withstand capability - the transformer body pressing force and winding tightness. Professional software is applied to check the force calculation formula to confirm its availability. A series of experiments based on the parameters of actual transformer products study the threshold of radial and axial direction instability for different wires. Some proposals on the wire materials to improve the ability to withstand short circuit are put forward. The modern manufacturing transformer body pressing force and winding compaction are measured, and some technological innovation measures are suggested to improve them.
