A Study On Parking Guidance Signs Design

As the rapid growth of economics and development of urban mobility process, the quantity of car owners increased rapidly in our country, all those leads to serious urban transportation problems. Parking difficulties has become one of the most intractable problems in urban transportation. The reason is parking is not only a static traffic problems, but also a start and end point of dynamic traffic which will effect the operation of the whole urban transportation system. The traditional way to solve parking problem is to afford more and more parking space. However, there is limited land resources, especially in the center of the big cities. In the process of people tried to find methods to solve parking problems, using parking information issued by parking guidance information system to manage parking flow and raise the usage of parking spaces, has attracted more and more attention.As one of the most important way to express parking guidance information, the parking guidance signs could influence drivers to choose the parking lot. The thesis bases on Cognitive Psychology, uses the method of Experimental Psychology, attempting to research the visual characteristics of drivers and build a standard of the parking guidance signs. Above all, the thesis first introduces the development and researches of traffic signs and visual cognitive; then design parking guidance signs with reference of some criterion including the designing of signs'content, layout, size and so on; In the base of the analysis on drivers'visual recognition to traffic signs', the research focus on the layout and content, display color, display information units, display mode and information type released of parking guidance signs using driving and scenes simulated experiments; meanwhile the paper guidance signs using driving and scenes simulated experiments; meanwhile the paper analysis the drivers'parking choice behaviors including parking choice process and factors affecting their choice behaviors; Lastly the result from experiments will provide reference advice on frames of parking guidance signs'criterion.
